How To Select A Sleeping Bag For Your Kids
My six year old just had her first sleepover party, and I bought her her first kids sleeping bag. It was a pretty blue color with little stars all over the outside of it.
It was the perfect kids sleeping bag for her, because she loves the stars. Of all of the children I have, she is the only one who has expressed interest in being an astronaut.
I’ve Always Want To Be An Astronaut
I can relate, because at her age, and for quite a few years afterwards, I wanted to be an astronaut too. I had blankets with pictures of the stars on it, a pillowcase with the whole solar system, and my first kids sleeping bag had rocket ships and flying saucers all up and down.
I’ve always enjoyed buying children’s sleeping bags, because it reminds me of when I was that age. Sleepovers seemed so adventurous, and I would always get to stay up late, telling ghost stories, and then dreaming about the stars.
Of course, my oldest no longer uses a kids sleeping bag. She has moved beyond the age of backpacks and lunch boxes, and now teaches at a wilderness school for wayward youth.
Passionate about camping
She has been passionate about camping ever since she got her first kids sleeping bag and went out into the woods to go camping with her old man.
I believe that she was seven or eight years old. I had never been much of an outdoors type myself, and had not really ever planned a trip with her before.
The only reason why we went on that one is that she would beg and beg me to take her there.
I do not really know where it came from, because a passion for the wild does not really run in my family, but she just would not get it out of her head until finally, around her birthday, I relented and took her to camp out at Silver lake.
What your child needs
Before you buy your first kids sleeping bag, you should be sure to find out a lot about the different types and what your child need. If they just plan on using it to sleep over at their friends house, a plain cotton one will work just fine. It will be light weight, inexpensive, soft, and not too warm.
The only time that they will need a more fancy one is if they plan on doing serious camping out somewhere where it will not be that warm.
