Things to Know When Buying Baby Sheets

Many people save their baby sheets because they feel their children grow up too fast and they keep them as a reminder of when their child was very small. Most families get a few sets of sheets as a baby shower gift, but there are many sizes and they may have to go out and buy more. This can be expensive, but there are some sheets which are really good without having to cost more than the crib or the bed. However, there are some safety issues to keep in mind when shopping for baby sheets and it is far more important that they be safe than cheap.

Always Make Sure Baby Sheets Fit the Mattress Tightly and Securely

In particular, baby sheets should fit the mattress tightly and securely. It might even be a good idea to have some sort of way to secure the sheets to each other so that there is no chance that they will come up while the baby is sleeping. Baby sheets can come loose and wrap around the baby’s neck or head and the child could suffocate. This is why it is absolutely essential to have the right size of sheet, and as a result used sheets probably are not a good idea. They may have been stretched out of shape and the elastic might not be as good as it once was.

Be Aware When Purchasing Special Cribs

There are many different sizes of baby sheets and some have to be hand or special made. Anything that goes in a bassinet must fit the tiny mattress securely and these might not be easy to find. Most baby sheets come in standard crib size, but when buying a special crib it is important to know how easy it will be to find sheets that will fit an odd shaped mattress. Although corner style cribs may seems very cute, it might be fairly hard to get sheets for them. The same can be said for the mattress that are much thicker than others, and the sheets might be expensive as well.

Though the initial buying of baby sheets might be a little costly, the good news is that in many cases they are something that can be used long after the baby is out of the crib. The toddler sized bed mattress usually is the same size as the crib, and some cribs even turn into a toddler sized bed. A child might not be in this size for very long, but in some cases they may be able to sleep in this size until age five. After that a twin will be needed, and of course, some more sheets.
