Why A Baby Sling Can Help Moms And Dads Bond With Their Child

Increasingly, many moms are now using a baby sling for a number of different reasons. In this article, the author discusses some of the pros and cons of this product and provides good advice to anyone thinking of making a purchase.

You may have seen a mom using a baby sling but you most likely will have no idea just how wonderful the product really is until you try one for yourself. While I’m not really a “new age” mom I do nevertheless appreciate some of the items that promote attachment between parent and child, and there are a few good reasons that just about any mom would appreciate a baby sling.

A Baby Sling Can Promote Closeness

The first benefit of this particular item is the closeness that you feel when you are wearing your baby. I know that may sound a little strange but the baby sling is a great way to keep your little one close by while still allowing you to have free hands. It can also work wonders for a weak back.

Of course, you certainly don’t want to cook while wearing a baby sling as the material drapes and might pose a fire hazard if you are not careful. I actually found that I had trouble doing dishes while wearing the infant sling as well. However, the item can be a lifesaver if you want to fold and sort laundry or just walk around without carrying your little one in your arms.

I first found out about the product through my sister-in-law who can arguably be a little over the top when it comes to attachment parenting! She likes to sleep with her infants next to her and she nurses her babies well into the toddler stage. When she suggested the baby sling I must admit I first kind of passed it off as a little too much for my own particular needs.

Baby Slings Are Also Perfect In Helping Fathers Bond With Their Baby

As I got to know more about attachment parenting I began to look at the baby sling a little differently. What better way to transition from being in the womb to being out in the world than through a baby sling? The infant is snug and right up against his mom’s body and it really can serve as a great bonding tool.

In addition, the baby sling is also perfect for helping dads feel close to their babies. It gives them the benefit of carrying the baby with extra support, and is also a great way to help those people who are a little bit apprehensive about carrying delicate little ones.

Are There Any Drawbacks To A Baby Sling?

I did, however, find a few drawbacks to the product. The first was that the infant tends to be lulled to sleep in the baby sling. Sound great? Well, she would also wake up when she was laid in her crib and seemed a little dependant on the motion to help her drift off to sleep.

Also, the baby sling I chose was a little awkward to wear and it was somewhat difficult to determine how it should be placed without refering to the instructions for a good period of time. In fact, I may have to find new instructions for my next infant because I’m sure that I won’t now remember how to wear the baby sling properly. However, both drawbacks are relatively minor considering all of the benefits offered by the baby sling, and once you wear one you may wonder how you ever coped without one before.
